FIMIV 2007

Musicians and dancers from 9 nationalities singing in 7 languages met during a week in Valparaiso to celebrate with over 2000 people attending performances, workshops and miniconcerts at our latest FIMIV 2007
Since 2003, every second semester of every year we organise with the aid of the Fundación Valparaíso and DuocUC of Valparaíso-Viña del Mar this music and artistic gathering as the Festival internacional de Música inmigrante de Valparaíso (FIMIV) that celebrates folk music in the old city port of Valparaíso, Chile.
For this year, the Festival was doing its activities in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar starting with Sunday October 28th 19:30 at the Teatro municipal de Viña del Mar, to follow up with free concerts on Wednesday 31th in the Aula magna Duoc of Valparaiso, to continue with what formally and traditionally has been our Festival from November 2th to 4th in the following order:
Friday 2th
Teatro municipal de Valparaíso, 08 pm.
Saturday 3th
12 am piper's parade Valparaíso
03 pm workshops and miniconcerts. Escuela de Música PUCV, Cerro Concepción
08 pm Plaza Anibal Pinto, sector Bellavista, Valparaíso. Free concert
Sunday 4th
08 pm Teatro municipal de Valparaíso

Chilean irish sessions et al.

Sessions are part of the folk music traditions partially hidden in the chilean cities.... For the old time/irish sessions. Most of them start a house gatherings and some move to restaurants and bars..... For example Jazz and folk irish sessions are found at Club de Jazz de Santiago, Avda. "We meet every third Saturday of the month at the Club de Jazz de Santiago from 7 PM to 9 PM.Music played: traditional Irish music, basically jigs, reels and polkas.Level: Intermediate.Dancers are welcome - there is a dance board.The session is open, however there is a group of six core musicians.Instruments played: Uillean pipes, tin whistle, fiddle, bodhran, Irish flute, acustic guitar, mandolin ocasionally.All musicians interested in Irish Traditional Music are welcome. Please know your tunes by heart. A list of most frequently played tunes will be posted in the Club de Jazz website the week before.Anybody interested in being part of a mailing list should contact vbachelet@medwave.cl " .
